Expect the Unexpected

Lily hit a bump in the road today with her chemo. She had a reaction to one of the chemotherapy drugs. They chemo was immediately stopped, but she had to have an epi pen injection. Because of the way her body reacted to the chemo then the subsequent injection, we were admitted to the hospital to make sure she was ok.

Even though we knew a reaction to the chemo was possible, it was still a scary experience for us. Because Lily is a thinker and it takes her a little time to process what she experiences and feels, bedtime was a challenge for her. We spent a lot of time talking through the events of the day and how the epi pen was scary and unexpected.

As a result of her allergic reaction, she will not receive that specific chemo drug again. There are alternatives that she will take, but the way we get them will change. Instead of just getting chemo on Thursday, for the next two weeks she will have to go to clinic Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

We are hopeful that we will be able to go home tomorrow.

We are so thankful for your thoughts and your prayers. Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours.
